Hard work is child’s play

Join the Escuela Community in Separate but Together Trek Experiences!

by | Feb 9, 2021 | Arts & Culture

Over the long weekend, we encourage families to get out, explore, and “trek together,” separately. Follow the same routes as your friends and classmates; look for specific things – a scavenger hunt of landmarks and natural wonders. Click on the treks below for routes and guidance. Feel free to bring your own creativity to these treks. Students could paint rocks with special images and leave them for others to find. Please take pics of your family in specific locations so we can assemble photo collages! Send photos to Carmela Chavez Liberman at yearbook@edelsol.org or to your child’s classroom teacher.

Downtown Murals
Recommended for Elementary and Jr. High
This trek allows you to go at your own pace. You can walk or drive through downtown. Walking will allow your child to spot independent street art, building details, and to get up close and personal with the murals. Driving will allow your child to see murals and street art in the greater context of the downtown cityscape.

Driving Tour of Harwood Art and Artists
Recommended for Elementary and Jr. High
This trek also allows you to go at your own pace and choose your own route. You can see all the works of art on one trip or check them out on different days. You could also revisit them at different times of day to see how they change with the sun. It’s up to you! Walk around and interact with art pieces. Move around them, look up and down, what do you notice? Take a photo or draw your favorite part of the art. Take a picture of yourself with the work. Be creative! What do you notice about the relationship between the art and the area that surrounds it?

Rio Grande Nature Center & Bosque
Recommended for Early Childhood, Elementary and Jr. High
This trek allows you to go at your own pace and choose your own adventure. Would you like to learn more about the Nature Center and the bosque? Head inside to check out the exhibits! If you’d rather spend time outdoors, follow the paths, and explore while keeping an eye out for plants and critters. Explore and learn about leaf shapes and their parts – a favorite work in Primary and Elementary. Don’t forget to stop and read the information stations along whatever path you choose!

BioPark – Zoo
Recommended for Early Childhood, Elementary and Jr. High
This is a trek through one of our favorite family hangouts – our own local zoo! We hope it will give you a fresh perspective on a familiar place. Take your time, follow the arrows, and see if you can spot things that are new and interesting. And we just learned that the penguin exhibit has re-opened! Maybe you’ll be the first Escuela family to share penguin pics!

Huge thanks to Ms. Sarah and Ms. Carmela for creating, organizing, and planning these wonderful treks. We hope your family will enjoy this Separate but Together event!
