Health Updates and Gratitudes

Dear Escuela Families,

On this lovely sunny Monday, we want to give you some updates. First, I want to again send my gratitude for all the supportive messages you’ve sent. I especially want to send a shout out to the Escuela staff. Everyone here is committed to keeping the school open on behalf of our students. For that reason, each and every one of our staff, while being very aware of the possible exposure and risk to themselves and their families, continues to show up. They are an amazing and wonderful team; I am ever grateful to them.

I want you to know that the commitment to our community extends to honest and accurate communication. We will always share information with you, never withholding any facts you should be aware of. We will not, however, share speculations not grounded in fact. Let me explain why I want to make these points clear to you: We now have two members of our community who have had possible, although indirect, exposure to Covid. We cannot speculate when or how anyone may possibly have been exposed, if at all. Be assured that no one who has entered the campus has tested positive as far as we know. For cautionary reasons, all possibly affected people are quarantined and will be tested again before returning to Escuela.

In addition, our staff is doing their best to be tested on a regular basis. The goal is for us all to be tested every two weeks. This is sometimes a challenge since it is becoming more and more difficult to get testing appointments. We continue, however, to do our level best to get it done. Teachers are spending part of their weekends in line to get tested, and/or are making appointments at pharmacies. The school is keeping careful records of testing, results, and all incidents of illness among our students and staff. We continue, of course, with our sanitation practices.

To ensure our records are accurate, please remember to email the office if your child is going to be absent for any reason

You may begin to hear about our outdoor heaters, as well. We are committed to keeping doors and windows open and enabling our students to work and play (and eat) outdoors as much as possible. Please make sure your kids are dressed appropriately.

Gratefully,
Friedje vanGils
