Hard work is child’s play

6×6 is Almost Here!

by | Nov 11, 2020 | Studio Gallery

Every year, Escuela Elementary and Jr. High students are invited to make artwork 6″x6″ in dimension, for Harwood’s Annual 12×12 Fundraiser!  This event is one of the most popular exhibits at the Harwood and helps raise money for their outreach programming.

This year, the exhibition will be entirely online – we hope it will be as popular as ever with a digital catalog (AND a physical catalog that will be available for purchase!).

We would love to see your student’s process in creating their 6×6 works! Please email your photos to the Office to be featured in next week’s e-news.

Deadline This Week!

Elementary and Jr. High students have been provided a 6×6 inch canvas on which they can create an original piece of art.  This year, students have been encouraged to work with materials that are available to them at home. These things can be art supplies, recycled materials, dried goods (beans, etc), cut paper, etc.

The Harwood is offering this input for inspiration,  “Think about what it is you would like to gift your community through your artwork during this very different time!”

Students have been exploring this prompt, and others, in class with Ms. Christy and have been learning to return to their work and ask, “What do you need?”  Usually, when a canvas is revisited, something will pop up, and the student might add something else, but not always. The important step is returning and looking!

In order for student’s work to be photographed and added to the digital 12×12 catalog, all 6×6 works must be turned in by this FRIDAY, Nov. 13th!   Questions can be addressed to Ms. Christy.
