“The education of even a small child... does not aim at preparing him for school, but for life.”
- Maria Montessori

Our Program
The Toddler Community
The Toddler Community is designed with the youngest members of our community in mind. It is located at the heart of our school. Often the first experience outside the home, indoor and outdoor environments create a nurturing atmosphere of love and respect where children may flourish as they develop independence and a sense of self. Toddlers are invited to explore the world around them and form friendships with peers and adults at an unhurried pace. The classrooms meet the developmental needs of toddlers: child-sized furniture and materials foster social-emotional awareness and growth, the development and refinement of movement, the organization of sensory perceptions, and language acquisition. Outdoor environments allow children to connect with nature each day.Primary
Primary students long to contribute to the real world around them in meaningful ways. With the power of what Dr. Montessori described as an “Absorbent Mind,” they can learn vast amounts of information about the world around them. Over the three-year cycle of the Primary classroom, students develop independence and a knowledge of themselves as individuals. They learn to contribute to a community of peers where social-emotional skills are nurtured and each child is honored for their contributions. In this dynamic environment, students learn holistically, developing social-emotional and academic skills simultaneously. Hands-on experiences with concrete, manipulative materials engage the senses, promote creativity, and support every learner to develop concentration, problem-solving, and friendliness with error. Children receive individual lessons that build daily practical life skills, introduce mathematical concepts, strengthen literacy, and explore botany, geography, zoology, and much more.Elementary
Following Dr. Montessori's vision of Cosmic Education, the elementary classrooms at Escuela invite students to explore the mysteries and wonders of the universe. The curriculum unfolds over a six-year cycle. Academic lessons are anchored in the awareness that all life is interconnected and human contribution is but one, dynamic part of the whole. Students are inspired by stories and materials that concretely introduce complex abstract concepts and stimulate their intellectual curiosity as they sharpen their reasoning minds. Children are empowered to ask questions, seek out resources, and follow their own interests as they develop key academic skills. Elementary students are social beings; learning in an environment of kindness and consideration for others is crucial to moral development, a sense of dignity, and academic success.
“The universe is an imposing reality and an answer to all questions. We shall walk together on this path of life, for all things are part of the universe, and are connected with each other form one whole unity. This idea helps the mind of the child to become fixed, to stop wandering in an aimless quest for knowledge. He is satisfied, having found the universal centre of himself with all things.” -Maria Montessori, To Educate the Human Potential
Adolescent Community
The Jr. High House provides a Center of Study and Work that functions as a home-like environment, providing a safe and nurturing space where adolescents can work, study, replenish, connect, and participate in social organization. An on-campus staff of collaborative adults with various areas of expertise provides side-by-side instruction daily, as well as connecting students with community specialists in a wide range of fields. Students make meaningful contributions to their community through a student-run business, and micro-farm, “Unearthed”, as well as a kitchen and a lab. These provide the setting for applied math and science study. Students learn key academic concepts embedded in wider units of study in the Humanities and are empowered to have autonomy and choice in creating and realizing their own projects. Self-expression forms a key component of the adolescent community, with art, music, and physical expression incorporated throughout the learning experience.Classrooms
Our classrooms are student-centered learning environments that empower students to meet their needs and explore their place in the world. As students discover who they are as individuals and develop increasing independence, they also learn what it means to be in a community. Motivated by their own interests, students uncover a passion for discovery that builds knowledge and confidence. Classrooms adapt at each level to meet the developmental needs of students throughout their learning journey, and the Montessori Materials increase in complexity as children grow and develop. Students at every level blossom academically, emotionally, and interpersonally as they learn to care for themselves, their community, and their environment. The Toddler Community

“I can’t imagine a warmer, more nurturing educational environment anywhere. Not only did Escuela del Sol prepare my daughters academically for middle school, but they ignited an awareness and social conscience that has ensured they are both self motivated, endlessly curious, high achieving middle school students. The Escuela del Sol Montessori experience is geared to nurture a lifelong love of learning, and help your child shine as an individual.”
